1507936 Electrically insulating compositions AGENCE NATIONALE DE VALORISATION DE LA RECHERCHE 23 June 1975 [21 June 1974] 26516/75 Heading C3P Electrically insulating compositions comprise (1) a macromolecular material and (2) an agent which improves its resistance to partial discharges under high electric field, said agent being a metal chelate of an enolate or thioenolate of formula where R1, R2 and R3 are H, alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl or S-, O-, or N-containing heterocyclic groups, optionally halogen substituted, X and Y are O or S, the total number of carbon atoms is 5 to 25, Mn + is a metal ion and n is 1 to 4, present in amount sufficient to promote the extinction of partial discharges but insufficient to substantially alter the physical properties of the insulator. The macromolecular material may be a polyethylene, polyester or polyepoxide. Examples describe compositions of low density polyethylenes and titanium, ferric, zirconium IV, cupric, chromic, ceric, titanium III, aluminium and vanadium III chelates of enolates of 6-methyl heptanedione-2,4.
