The arch is formed by refractory bricks of truncated pyramidal shape, being particularly for industrial melting furnaces. The bricks have polygonal bases, allowing the formation of arcs with different chords. The bases can be square, and at right angles to each other, or some can have square and others rectangular bases, allowing the formation of arches of differing radii, to suit furnaces of different diameters. Bricks with triangular, hexagonal and octagonal bases can also be used. The bricks can be of the modular type, with polygonal bases of one or two types for combination in a mosaic pattern to give the concave arch surface.
