Hydraulic decanter for the treatment of sands comprises a bucket wheel disposed over a decantation vessel, an overflow. The waters overflowing are recovered in a recovery vessel from which they are discharged into a separator of the cyclone type in which the residual sands are extracted as underflow. The residual sands are poured onto the sand deposited in the ascending buckets. Decanter allows recovery of fine sandy elements which are eliminated by the overflow from the waters and which have a significant value.
