STUDDED HEARTHAbstract of the DisclosureA furnace, particularly for use in a slagging pyrolysissystem for the disposal of solid waste, includes a metalhearth portion, unprotected by refractory material, thehearth portion having a plurality of heat conducting studsaffixed to the inner wall of the hearth portion and means forcooling the studs for causing a slag coating which protectsthe hearth wall from attack by corrosive substances, minimizesadditional heat loss and prevents melting of the hearth wall.
