ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE:A process for the preparation of alkyl tert-butylethers starting from a primary alcohol and isobutylene in thepresence of butadiene. The process comprises supplying a feedmixture consisting of a primary alcohol and a O4 hydrocarbonfraction containing isobutylene and butadiene to a reaction zonecontaining an ion exchange resin in acid form as catalyst, at aspace velocity of from 5 to 35, reacting therein the feedmixture at a temperature of from 60 to 120°C and separation theether obtained by distillation. The losses of butadiene whichare due to the dimerisation and polymerization thereof in thepresence of the catalyst are limited to values lower than 2% andan olefinio fraction which is further enriched in butadiene canthus be recovered as side-product.
