After an evolutionperiod, t1, a 90° mixing pulse is applied and the free inductiondecay is sampled as a function of time, t2, The signalfunctions Si (t1 , t2, .PHI.i) is developed for systematicallyvaried values of t1 and specially selected values of .PHI.i. Linearcombinations of the signal functions Si yield, after Fouriertransformation a two dimensioanl spectrum of multiple quantumtransitions limited by the choice of phase and linear combination.In another embodiment, a magnetic gradient pulse is appliedduring the evolution period and resulting multiple quantumtransitions yield spectral peaks of width dependent uponthe order of such transitions. In particular, all spectralpeaks may be removed from resulting spectra save only zeroorder transitions.- 1 -
