METHOD FOR PRODUCING ELECTROLYTIC HIGH PURITYLEAD USING LARGE-SIZED ELECTRODESABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREThe Betts process for electrolytically refininglead from crude lead containing bismuth is improvedby the use of crude lead anodes containing as impurities0.8 to 1.3 % by weight of antimony, 0.6 % by weight orless of bismuth, 0.1 % by weight or less of copper and0.05 % by weight or less of tin, the ratio of the sumof the contents of antimony and arsenic to the contentof bismuth being 2.0 or more, therein producing electro-lytically deposited lead which is feasible for beingrefined into a purity of 99.999 % or more whensubjected to the Harris process. The Betts process canbe effected in a large-sized electrolytic cell contain-ing corresponding electrodes by the use of high puritylead cathodes having at the centers many wrinklescapable of absorbing residual strain.
