ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREThe subject of the present invention is a process forthe preparation of new high-molecular weight polyester-poly-carbonates which contain incorporated segments containingcarboxyl groups and can be processed by thermoplastic methods,which process is characterized in that segments which containcarboxyl groups and have average molecular weights ?n (number-average of the molecular weight determined via the acid numberof the segments containing carboxyl groups) of greater thanabout 600, preferably of greater than about 800 and inparticular of between about 1,000 and 20,000, are reactedwith diphenols and phosgene by the known two-phase boundarypolycondensation process at a pH value of between about 9and 14 and at a temperature of between about 0°C and 80°Cand preferably of between about 15°C and 40°C and the resultingreaction products are either subjected to a heat treatmentat temperatures of between about 40°C and 170°C for betweenabout 5 minutes to 24 hours or are subjected, at temperaturesof between about 130°C and 250°C, to shear forces of betweenabout 720 and 2520 kJ/kg of polymer or are gelled in solutionby organic solvents. The invention also relates to the poly-ester-polycarbonates which are obtainable according to theinvention and contain at least 2 phases, resulting from thepolycarbonate constituent and the segment fraction which hasterminal carboxyl groups.
