Wear or Thrust Plates for HydraulicRock Splitting ApparatusAbstract of the DisclosureThis invention pertains to hydraulically actuated rocksplitters which utilize a wedge and feather action. The forwardmovement of this wedge places a corresponding thrust load on thefeathers and their retaining means. Conventionally. the feathershave enlarged portions which are engaged by and are retained byhardened steel thrust or wear plates carried by a shell orhousing. As a means of keeping the weight within reasonablelimits this housing is usually made of aluminum or an alloy ofaluminum. The support for these hardened steel plates, asprovided by the housing, is usually insufficient resulting ina cracking or breaking of the hardened steel plates. Alamination of these plates and providing a softer steel backingreduces or eliminates damage to the housing when cracking of thehardened steel plates occurs.-1-
