2,2'-methylene- or 2,2'-ethylidinebis(4,6-dialkylphenols) or 2,2'-methylenebis(4-methyl-6-cyclohexylphenol) are obtained by reacting 2,4-dialkylphenols or 4-methyl-2-cyclohexylphenol, respectively, with a condensing agent in the presence of an acid-containing catalyst at a temperature of 30-140 DEG C. Suitable acetals are used as condensing agents. 1 mol of suitable phenol is employed per 1-10 mols of acetal. The acetal simultaneously acts as the diluent. The desired product is isolated from the reaction mixture. The compounds prepared can be used as stabilisers for polymer materials.
