An insulating box for easy removal and replacement, e.g. at a weld requiring inspection, esp. in a nuclear reactor contains mineral wool filling and consists of upper and lower cover plates on frames held apart by spacer and of a lateral, outward bulging cloth. Alternatively, a basket-shaped framework is covered in cloth and has a top closure plate. Rapid and easy removal and replacement of thermal insulation is possible to inspect the underlying plant. The insulating box can either by fitted with handles and be completely removed, as an insert, or can be hinge-mounted to fold back and reveal the plant beneath.
