A conjugate, forming sol. Na & insol. Ca salts, formed by covalent amide &/or ester linkage between: (1) an acidic polysaccharide, such as pectin, pectic acid, alginic acid, celluronic acid or carragheenin (2) a biochemically active substance of protein nature or contg. phenolic OH gps, such as an antigen or allergen, a micro-organism, toxin, toxoid, hormone, enzyme or hapten. For solubilising insol. biologicals with preservation of their activity; or for insolubilising a sol. enzyme, albumin or antigen. They are stable on storage in the dry state.
