The patient/nurse communications system, for hospitals, handles voice signals and data signals using time multiplexing. Analog data signals describing e.g. a patient's condition are converted at the patient's station into pulses whose widths represent the magnitudes of the analog data signals. - The basic width of a pulse is equal to the width of a clock pulse and its max. width is a multiple of this basic width. The information pulses or signals derived from them are transmitted over one or more control pulse lines to an evaluation unit.
