Painting appts. produces fine coloured line images or geometrical curves in desired combination on a flat or gently-curved, moving substrate, which is itself sufficiently heavy or weighted to form a damped vibratory system; the substrate is associated with painting element(s) which are stationary w.r.t. it. Preferably the substrate is suspended for free oscillation on a frame with 3 or 4 legs, for execution of various oscillatory and/or pendular motions. The substrate may have a paper sheet on a rotary disc given a pulsating or rotary motion by an electric motor or electromagnetic or other drive, producing a horizontal motion.
