The coil assembly of the high voltage power transformer consists of a main basic coil, coupled to high voltage via a terminal (8), and an additive stepped coil, in series with the main coil, having a movable tap changer (5). The latter is continuously connected to the end of the main coil, away from the high voltage terminal. - Preferably the stepped coil consists of a coarse (2) and a fine coil (3). The coil assembly (1-3) terminal, away from the high voltage terminal, e.g. the earth, is coupled to one end of the coarse coil (2). Between the movable tap changer and the main coil end, away from the high voltage terminal may be incorporated a load change-over switch.
