A solid state function generator produces a variety of possible waveform outputs, including time symmetric waveforms. The circuits, which are constructed of silicon solid state electronics are suitable for application to automatic timing techniques in ultra short wave radio receivers. The basic circuit elements are a capacitance (15) and discharging resistances (4, 10) together with transistor based charging circuits (1, 3) which are connected to the capacitance by means of a multiway switching arrangement. The basic voltage observed at the capacitance is exponential either decreasing or increasing depending on the loading conditions, and by switching the various alternative circuits on to the capacitance at the correct moments, a number of difficult cyclic waveform, but all comprising exponential components.
