Telecine unit for producing t.v. signal from cine film projected forwards or in reverse at various speeds, e.g. 16, 18 or 24 frames per second, or for scanning a still frame. The film transport is completely independent of the picture frequency of the t.v. system. - Film frame counting circuitry (207) with inputs from a film detector (205) and stratoscope (203) measure the film frame rate and feed information to a combining unit (221) which has an input from the t.v. frame oscillator (213). Consequently the flying spot scanning unit (193) is synchronised to the t.v. output circuit (195) so that complete t.v. pictures are produced from the film (197).
