Impact absorbing car body - with telescopic frame sections braced on wheel arch profiles

Engine compartment of the vehicle is fitted with impact absorbing longitudinal frame members (1) whose rear ends are profiled to fit over the wheel arch pressings (10). These brace the impact forces evenly over the passenger compartment, while most of the force of the collision is taken up by the collapsible frame sections. - The width of the com partment is not affected, with the compact layout of the bracing frames. Maximum engine or boot space is achieved without a reduction in the strength of the structure. Pref. each impact absorbing member (1) overlaps wiht another similar member (2) which is displaceable vertically.
