Fuel-rod spacer gratings - for nuclear reactors with fuel elements having regular hexagonally spaced rods

The meshes of the grating, at whose centres the rods are placed, are defined by a pattern of six sided figures interlaced and the webs which form the sides of these meshes are alternately convex and concave, the rods being supported by the concave webs; the webs may be in the form of smooth curves or be of two or more straight lines approximating to a curve. The gratings are esp made by conventional spark erosion machining. Simple, light-weight and cheap. Accurate control of dimensions of fuel rod matrix.
