The two equal sized square plates (P, S), which are connected together for articulated movement, each have on one side face coupling members for clamping the hollow box-like toy block. On the other side face (ip, is), remote from the coupling members there is an arm (cp, cs) set at right angles to the face. - The two arms are connected by a hinge, wherein the distance of the swivel axis (x) from the outer face (yp) of the first plate is the same as the distance from the inner face (is) of the second plate and the distance equals half the side length (a) of the plates. The blocks can be built up in different directions. Since the swivel axis is now not on the edge of the plates, one plate can be set to the right or left relative to the other.
