The welding of pipe-fittings onto hollow containers, esp. radiators, where a small projection or bead is provided on the ends of the pipe and a support is provided inside the container so that press. can be used during the welding operation. In welding e.g. a T-piece between two radiators, the assembly is located in a horizontal press between the electrodes. In each hollow tank is a support stool which extends across the entire section so that there is a metal path between the electrodes and the joints. The stools have concentric holes to match the pipes, but they support the metal round the holes. The small ring-projection on the pipe ends provides the necessary electrical resistance so that a good joint can be made. The process eliminates hand-welding.
