The separated test stream passes through a splitting element in which the steady flowing stream is exposed to a magnetic or electric field and is split in several component streams which pass through measurement chambers in which the solid matter content is measured in each component stream. The solid matter content is determined by continuous turbidity or conductivity measurement, or by continuous weighing by e.g. a ring balance.
