The location arrangement of pre-selector, selector, load transfer switch and switch-over resistor for HV-step-transformers is so chosen that the selector is split up into two housings, one for the even numbered and the other for the odd numbered steps. The two selector housings are placed side by side in the same plane with the pre-selector switch in between them. In a second plane, preferably above the first plane are the load switch and the switch-over resistor located. These five construction elements form one unit which is attached to a fork bracket which projects from the actual transformer casing. The switch-over resistor may have its own container which may be accessible through a mounting hole in the transformer cover plate. The arrangement is space saving and secures an increased surge voltage strength and an improved short-circuit current strength.
