In pulse-height analysers with real-time analogue-digital transformation, in order to process a pulse, the necessary dead time is required only for the classified amplitude range, and the evaluation and decoding of a pulse is started by the reverse amplitude, which is established by the reverse counting of the analogue-digital converter. The number of reverse counting steps to identify the reverse amplitude is selected in accordance with the maximum amplitude of the pulse. The method also applies to pulse-height analysers in which analogue-digital transformation does not take place in real-time operation.
