A batch disintegrator for waste plastics, where the matl. is fed into a disintegrator vessel contg. a rotor with beater arms, opt. simultaneously washed, heated solely by the energy of beating and disintegration, is agglomerated, compacted, cooled by spraying in liq. and then finally extracted from the vessel, is operated by regulating the commencement of the cooling stage not only by the temp. of the matl. in the vessel but also by the current demand of the electric motor driving the beater arms. Pref., the temp, of the vapour of the cooling liq. is utilised as a control parameter for the discharge stage. Since both the quantity and the type of matl. esp. its fusion temp., can vary considerably, it is possible with the conventional method where only the temp. of the batch is used as control parameter for commencing the cooling stage, that either too much cooling liq. is introduced due to the high heat content of the batch, or where the batch is very small, the contained heat is not sufficient to evaporate the cooling liq. completely. The use of the additional parameters as above improves the course of the process and results in an improved end product.
