Inaccessible reactor pressure-vessel welds inspection - by ultrasonic head travelling vertically, horizontally and circularly

An inspection system capable of moving different directions, esp. for regions of pressure vessel walls which have difficult access, consists of a remote controlled test head which moves along vertical and horizontal coordinates and also can execute an angular motion. It pref. comprises a measuring arm with an inspection assembly and rotational drive at one end; the arm being mounted to traverse laterally (e.g. horizontally) on a trolley which can travel longitudinally (e.g. vertically) with a drive on a guide rail. A programmer regulates the operations. Device is used for the regular inspection, of reactor pressure vessel penetration welds (nozzle welds) and the inner edge of the penetration (nozzle), and inspection of linear welds; and is esp. for ultrasonic testing.
