The straight junction box for heavy current cables for low and medium voltages has the ends of the two cables conductors (6, 7) facing one another end-on and enclosed in a conducting sleeve (1) that acts both as an electric connector and as a field control electrode. the ends of the conductor sleeve extend over the ends of the cut-back insulating sheath (4, 5) and are rounded (2, 3) to meet the surface of these sleeves smoothly. A gap (9, 10) is left between the conducting sleeve and the insulating sheaths, and is filled with a sealing material (15). Alternatively,the conducting sleeve and the insulating sheaths may be joined flush with one another by suitably shaping their ends.
