The device for monitoring or detecting leaks between two coolant circulations in a heat exchanger is partic. for cooling of transformer oils in which two coolants of different specific gravities circulate through double walled tubing. Common interstices are filled with leakage detection fluid of specific gravity smaller than that of the heavier of the two coolants. The lowest space section of the lowest tube floor is connected by a cut off device to a water detector and the uppermost section of the intermediate space of the higher tube florr is connected to an expansion tank for the leak detector fluid.
