The transfer roller train incorporates a number of loading and unloading stations and a number of machining stations with machine tools. The transfer roller train further incorporates turn-over stations and a transport arrangement with a transport belt, which covers the four sides of a square for transporting workpieces to the next machining station. The machine tools (M) which are vertical units, are placed inside the square formed by the transport belt. Vertical machining units can be placed outside the square. The transport arrangement incorporates guides and workpiece mounts (P) which maintain the correct orientation of the workpiece while it is guided round the corners of the square.
