The nail fastener connects two components, the component adjacent the head of the nail being of softer material than the other. The part of the nail situated in the softer material is made with a larger diameter than the part situated in the harder material. The nail (4) may be used to secure a relatively thick plate (1) of insulating material to a steel plate (2). If the whole nail were of a diameter suitable for entering the steel plate, the driving force would bend the part lying in the insulating plate.
