Air or gas purification using sorption filters - where additional filters prevent undesirable contamination of sorption filters

This is an addn. to 2530201, which described a process for protecting gas sorption filter chambers from unwanted contamination, during the purificn. of air or gas, by using a protective filter chamber to which the air was fed when unwanted impurities were detected in the inlet flow. The second filter contains simple sorption agents, and walls permeable to the air or gas. An intermediate chamber with a gas inlet pipe is now provided between the above chambers. A further intermediate chamber with gas inlet pipe is also fitted between each pair of protective filter chamber. Each gas inlet pipe is pref. fitted with a control valve, the inlet pipes being supplied by a common inlet manifold. Used for the removal of highly toxic impurities from air by using gas sorption filters. When the air contains impurities which would contaminate the sorption filters, the air is first directed through the protective filters.
