Rotary hydraulic damper for suspension of tracked vehicles - has oil cooled in pockets surrounding damper with rotor vanes on sleeve

The rotary damper for the suspension system of a heavy tracked vehicle has a rotor (3) mounted on a hollow shaft (1) which is in turn fixed to the tension bar spring. The sleeve (3) is provided with two vanes (12). The stator (4) is provided with vanes forming three chambers. The rotor vanes (12) operate in two of the chambers, whilst the third chamber communicates with pockets formed in the housing (5). All three chambers and the surrounding pockets are filled with oil. The heat generated by the operation of the damper raises the temp. of the oil in the pockets, causing it to expand and flow into the chamber and into the chamber and into the surrounding pockets where it is cooled.
