Material for electrically insulating a section of an energy transmission line, esp. for insulating an end section or connection of a paper-insulated cable, by introducing into a housing around the section, consists of (1) a dry, water immiscible, non-volatile, free flowing, organic liq. having a dielectric strength of at least 6 kV/mm at a gap of 2.5 mm a dielectric constant of less than 10, and a dissipation factor of less than 0.2, and remaining in the liquid state at 0 degrees C. and (2) at least two reactive components that are uniformly dispersed in (1), each component contg. 1-3 co-reactive gps. per molecule. Components (2) react with each other at room temp. to form a thermally stable, highly viscous thickening agent that remains uniformly dispersed in (1). Before components (2) are reacted the material has a viscosity of less than 5000cP at room temp. and after the reaction the material remains capable of flow, so that it assumes the shape of its container, and has a viscosity of at least 50,000 cP at room temp. and a viscosity charge of less than 10,000 cP over a temp. range of 25-100 degrees C. Remains stable during storage, as it is stored in two separate parts. Easily mixed and applied to cables, before reaction occurs, as a result of its low viscosity at room temp. Remains within the housing after reaction, and does not tend to leak. End sections or connections contg. the material can be handled without use of heat.
