The dual circuit brake for the vehicle and trailer has a multi-circuit protection valve (1) which protects the line to the trailer brakes and isolates the trailer brakes when a leak occurs. As the leak could occur at any point in the trailer system, the protection valve uses the supply pressure of the towing vehicle brakes as the reference point. The protection valve thus operates even when a slow leak occurs in the trailer brakes. It enables the trailer to be effectively isolated while allowing the towing vehicle brakes to ensure maximum braking control.
