The spit grill unit is provided with several upright rotating spits fitted with drip trays for the meat juices and are rotated individually by a rotary drive in front of a heating cylinder which contains electric or gas heating elements. As these spits rotate individually they are also displaced along the heating cylinder. The number of spits on the apparatus is high in relation to the size of the unit. The spits can be mounted in holders which are rotatably attached to a horizontally rotatable spur gear of the rotary valve. The spits themselves are driven by a second spur gear.
