Working of side edges of veneer sheets - by counting flaws on side already worked and using adjuster signal to vary cutting depth for following samples

Working of the side edges of veneer sheets is carried out by successively scanning and working the two opposed side edges. The side already worked is scanned, and the number of flaws in a given number of workpieces is counted and compared with a given admissible range. Where these differ, an adjuster signal is produced to vary the cutting depth for successive workpieces. Appts. comprises a workpiece conveyor, a stop, a scanner behind a tool, and a cutting depth adjuster. The scanner is connected via a store to an analyser associated with a counter for max. and min. number of flaws and a counter for the number of workpieces to be analysed. The analyser is connected to the adjuster via a control member.
