The heat transfer medium is charged to the heating or cooling roller via the trunnions (pivot pins) and withdrawn from it when cooled or heated. The device features a nozzle and, axially behind it, a guide body inside the (hollow) roller. The guide body is sectioned, in flow direction, into an intercepting nozzle at the inlet zone, a mixing section in the central zone, and a diffuser in the end zone of the passage for the medium. The device is used in plastics and rubber processing, textile mfr., papermaking etc. Surface temp. of the roller can be accurately controlled and temp. distribution evenly maintained over the entire roller surface coming into contact with the material being processed. Temp. variations can be held within very narrow limits.
