In a tunnel kiln for the ceramic industry, kiln wagons or cars are pushed stepwise along rails in counter-current to hot flue gases flowing towards the tunnel inlet door. Between the inlet door and the last wagon pushed into the tunnel, is a suction channel for the hot gases, located in the floor of the kiln, with inlet holes in the floor. The hot gases are continuously drawn out of the kiln, even when the door is open, the invention providing a suction channel of simple design, and which saves space.
