A machine for forming and trimming circular metal lids has a headstock mounted in ball bearings. The bearings are fitted in a housing which can slide in guides attached to the supporting frame. The movement of the housing is controlled by a handwheel. A bolted on extension to the headstock carries a chuck to hold the blank. The housing is moved by the handwheel until the blank is in contact with the profiled roller. The chuck is rotated by driving the central shaft. This motion of the chuck causes the roller and the headstock to rotate in opposite directions and spin the blank to the required shape and trim off surplus material by means of the cutting edge.
