The mechanism has an axially slidable counter-ring, also with spun toothing fitting both spun gear rings teeth. At least the toothing (5a) of the spur gear ring (5), secured to the spindle drum (1) and that (9a) of the counter-ring (9) are formed from toothed segments, corresponding in number to the indexing positions of the spindle drum. The face sections between the toothed segments spun gear ring (5) protrude above the tooth roots. The corresponding segments of the counter-ring have corresponding recesses for the acceptance of the protruding sections.
