Communications system with channel sharing - allows one channel to be shared between several subscribers by employing digital techniques

The communications system allows one channel to be shared between several subscribers (e.g. one radio channel). The signals are sent in digital form (e.g. PCM or PDM). Detectors at each receiver detect digital signals arriving from both directions -- and similarly at each transmitter. The normal through bidirectional path between terminals is broken when an intermediate station sends signals. The signal detectors at the receivers are designed to switch over the signal processors (regenerators, decoders etc.) to signals arriving from the opposite direction.
