The stationary part of the transport unit has a tube (6) which rests on a support surface (1) and can be inflated by a fluid. The movable part (22, 24) comprises a cylindrical body which rests on and compresses the tube. Inflation of the tube causes the body to be moved along as its rotational axis lies at right angles to the tube's length. The support surface is U-shaped and has vertical side lines (2) which provide lateral guidance for the body. The top edges of these limbs are directed inwards towards one another to provide flanges (4) on whose lower faces wheel rollers run (20).
