Intersecting-strip packing for gas-fluid contactor vessel - has pads at ends of strips preventing vibrational wear

A packing unit to be used in an installation for bringing a gas and a fluid into contact, as in an absorption column, is made up of a number of strips which intersect each other to form a grid. At the ends of the strips, pads or cushions are provided which have a larger area than the cross-section of the strip. The pads are arranged at right angles to the strips, so that the separate units in each layer of the stack of packings have a larger area in contact with the surrounding wall of the contacter vessel. The cushions at the ends of the spacing strips prevent damage to the packing unit and/or the column lining, due to rubbing caused by vibration.
