Metallised fibres, threads or textiles consist of a polycarbonate with a metal coating 0.05-1 mu thick. De-greasing, etching, roughening and other pre-treatments are avoided. The surface resistance of theprod. is lower than cna be obtd. with ionic activation baths and acid metallising baths. Specifically, (a) the material is immersed in an acid, colloidal PdCl2 soln. contg. an excess of Zn (II) ions, (b) this activated material is treated with an acid or alkali, and (c) the material is coated with metal at room temp. by a current-free process, using an alkaline metal soln.
