In addition to the mains transformer (TR) the charger has a secondary side rectifier (GR), to whose output the accumulator (B) is connectable. The charging current is maintained constant by a control circuit (R). The primary side (PW) of the transformer is connectable to the mains alternating voltage via a control phase interface (PS). The control voltage for this interface can be tapped at a photosensitive resistor, forming an output of a fully encapsulated optical coupler (OK) which has a low voltage incandescent lamp as input element. The lamp feed voltage is kept constant by the control circuit, which can be supplied by an actual valve, corresponding to the accumulator charge current, in addition to a preset rated value.
