The gaming, or "fruit machine" having a number of symbol carrying drums etc. (1, 2, 3), has the drums mounted on a shaft (4) and driven by a motor (6) through gearing (7). The shaft is carried in bearings mounted in fixed plates (5), with a solenoid assembly (8, 9, 10) associated with each drum.
