Deflector for ice-breaker ship - has sloping ridges on each side of bows to deflect floes from under hull

The bows of the icebreaker are fitted with profiled ridges (3) on either side to divert the broken floes down the hull length and prevent them from running under the hull. The ridges provide a reduced surface area contact with the ice and a reduced drag for the ship. The profiles are esp. suitable for ice sheets with snow layers which would drag appreciably on conventional hulls. The ridges can be retrofitted to any hull.
