The loading or unloading installation is for ships and consists of a vertical conveyor located at the ship's and section of a conveyor supported from the shore. The vertical conveyor can be inserted into the cargo hold of a ship, and consists of a spiral conveyor made up from spiral segments (18) with it's bearing in a guide ring (13) connected to a base frame (20) born on supports on the ship. The upper end section of the vertical conveyor can be connected to a horizontal or almost horizontal conveyor. The conveyor angle of each segment made up from two sections is 360 degrees and each conveyor segment (17) includes a drive unit.
