The parent patent describes a diffusion column for swilling out liquors, esp. the juice from sugar beet cuttings in countercurrent, formed by a vertical cylindrical tube in which a centre tube is positioned concentrically. The central tube carries a rotary cutting distributor beneath which a sieve bottom is cleaned constantly. A pump delivers the mash of beet cuttings through a channel to the distributor, the front edge of which is formed by a number of slide shoes resting on the sieve bottom. The central tube has, at its bottom end a plate, beneath which, there is, supported coaxially, a shaft journal in a bearing in the bottom housing. The improvements that the opening through which the shaft journal passes has two or more channels in the housing provided with guide plates. Each mash channel in the housing has a flanged connection, which for pref. is connected to the m ain mash feed pipeline by pipe bends, each of which offers the same resistance to the flow. The new arrangement ensures that behind each mash distributor the surface of the sieve is kept clear and the most efficient draining of the juice is achieved.
