The cross country or long distance ski has a raised stay (2) extending along it, of a width less than the ski section forming the sliding surface. This connects the top section which has the ski binding attached to it. A ski boot support surface wider than the average width of the raised stay section is fitted to the centre of the stay. The curve of the stay is selected so that when weight is applied to the ski, the pressure exerted by the sliding surface on the snow is equal over the whole of the ski length.
